So, last Monday I had to go into the doctor for my 2 week checkup from the d&c. My doctor is taking every measure to make sure I heal and everything is looked after cause she thinks I'm "abnormal" (direct quote from her).
She did a sonogram on me which she says she rarely EVER does after a d&c but I'm "abnormal".
She also did a blood test on me which she says she rarely does after a d&c but I'm "abnormal". She wanted to make sure that the infection I got after the d&c had completely gone away. She told me that I was the one person she did NOT want to get an infection and I did. Just my luck.
So, she said that the sonogram looked good and they'd call me if the blood test results came back "abnormal".
What I had is called a Partial Molar Pregnancy. There is also a Complete Molar Pregnancy but that was not what I had thank God cause the risks to me are higher.
Taken from wedMD - A partial molar pregnancy is where "the placenta grows abnormally into molar tissue. Any fetal tissue that develops is likely to have severe defects."
So, in true form, I joined a message board on these molar pregnancies. I read all about other women's experiences and found out probably a lot more than I really wanted to know. Apparently, these "molar" cells can regenerate after your d&c and when that happens they turn into something called trophoblastic disease which. About 20% of Complete Molar pregnancies require chemo. And, 5% of Partial Molar pregnancies require chemo.
That's right....chemo. Like, as in you have cancer, chemo.
The doctor's standard procedure after a molar pregnancy should be to take weekly blood draws from me and monitor my HCH levels. HCG levels are just your hormone levels and they should continue to go down every week and if they don't....it's not good and you need chemo to get rid of the abnormal cells.
I read this and immediately freaked out. My doctor hadn't mentioned one word of this but every website about this type of pregnancy had. I immediately picked up my phone to call the doctor to ask if they had even checked my HCG levels in my blood draw. Right when I picked up the phone they were calling me. The nurse practitioner on the phone told me that my hormone levels were still higher than they'd like and I needed to come in for another blood draw.
So, that brings me to yesterday when I went in for my second blood draw. I should be hearing back this afternoon to see what my results were. Last week, my "number" was 159.6. I would love to hear that my number is at least half of that. So, I'm hoping it will be 80 or below to make me feel somewhat at ease.
What I've learned on the boards is that it doesn't really matter what your number is, but that it needs to keep going down. When my number stays the same or goes back up, that's not good.
**I am not a doctor, this is just based off of what I've read on my own. The basics are fact but I may be mixing up some words or processes.
So, I'll leave you with this. It's my happiness right now. My almost eaten chocolate chip muffin and LARGE coffee...
